The Ministry of Agriculture and Cattle Raising (MAG), Pablo Anliker, inaugurated this weekend the second tilapia processing plant in the country, which he considered “an essential step for aquaculturists to expand their markets.”
Anliker visited the Atiocoyo Sur Irrigation Association (ARAS), in San Pablo Tacachico, to deliver the authorization for the operation of the Tacachico Internacional plant.
The official highlighted that tilapia production in El Salvador “is one of the agroindustrial chains with the best growth prospects,” due to the nutritional value of this species. “
In this district, one of the largest irrigation systems in the country operates. Over time, communities have sought to diversify their sources of income and the sale of fresh tilapia has become a profitable opportunity.
The beneficiaries of the plant worked for three years to make this project possible. According to the MAG, now this association has the facilities to process fish products and to be able to export them.
