Government keeps working on projects to promote development in the eastern part of the country.

The president of the Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA), Federico Anliker, confirmed this Monday that the Pacific Airport project contemplated for the eastern part of the country continues to advance. In addition, he announced that the port of La Unión is already in the concession phase.

“They are mega-development projects that are going to come to promote what we want to do as a government, and boost the country’s economy,” he said in a television interview.

According to Anliker, the Pacific Airport project aroused the interest of different companies. He confirmed that around 44 institutions participated, of which 30 prequalified and 11 presented economic and technical offers.

‘‘ The technical team of CEPA, Public Works and FOSEP (Salvadoran Fund for Pre-investment Studies) made the pertinent evaluations and that is how a consortium and a company that participated as one won, ’’ ”said the official.

Anliker said that the consortium and the company have extensive experience in aeronautical and infrastructure issues. In turn, he confirmed that they are currently working on a project for the Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suárez Airport.

‘‘ We are going to have a first-rate international airport with its terminal, with its cargo area. These studies will give us the guideline to know where to start, ” stressed the president of CEPA.

Port of La Union

On the other hand, he announced that the La Unión port project is already in the concession phase. ‘‘ We are going at accelerated steps, and the concession will be a reality because the feasibility projects and the port master plan will be delivered soon, ’’ he said.

‘‘ The eastern zone has great potential starting with its people, but it has been abandoned for decades. In previous governments, it seemed like another country from the Lempa River to the east, ” said Anliker, who also highlighted that the administration of President Nayib Bukele will seek to promote development in this area.
