El Salvador has positioned itself as a benchmark for surfing and events of international relevance. The International Surf Association made it official that El Salvador will host the ISA Surf Games in 2023, which confirms the right decision to bet on the development of the country’s coastal strip and to attract these initiatives that stimulate the local economy .
Thus, the country established a new standard in the organization of large world-class competitions, during the ISA World Surfing Games 2021, which took place a few weeks ago on the beaches of La Libertad. There he not only stood out for the excellent handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, but also for the articulated work of all institutions and public security.
For this reason, the ISA World Surfing Games 2023 would serve as a qualifying event for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, an event in which the surfing competition would take place in Tahiti.
“In El Salvador we have found some incredible partners for the long-term benefit of Surfing. I want to especially thank President Bukele and Minister Valdez for their very strong commitment to the success of the World Surfing Games, and for believing in the ISA and its mission. What they have achieved here in recent days is more than remarkable and for this we are grateful and eager to continue expanding and strengthening this society, ”said ISA President Fernando Aguerre.
The organization highlighted how the country, through the Surf City project, is generating socio-economic development throughout the coastal strip, also projecting the sport and the country at a national and international level as a safe tourist destination, both in terms of the social coexistence as in the fight against COVID-19.
“As part of the Surf City initiative, it is an honor to host the Games once again and continue to show the world what our beautiful country has to offer,” said President Nayib Bukele.

In addition, the ISA announced that, as part of the agreement to continue bringing important surfing events to El Salvador, the Vissla ISA World Junior Surfing Championship will be held at El Sunzal beach and La Bocana, always in the municipality of Tamanique, La Libertad, in 2022.
